Hi,
Thanks so very much for responding. I am not eligible to belong to the DAR. The Ball family are ancestors of my deceased husband. I am doing the research for my sons because my husband died when they were young and in later years, I am sure they would like to know who their family was.
I think Levi Ball was a brother of our John Ball. I think that his father could be a John Ball (boy isn't that an unusual name????). Since I can't prove who the parents of our John Ball are, I thought I might find Levi's parents and go from there. I have lots of info on Levi but no info as to his parents.
I thought Levi might have received land from his service in the Rev. War and I could trace the land. I will check the Clements-Edward's book and I will see if I can find any info on Captain Samuel Smalley's Snow Hill Battalion of the Worcester Co MD Militia, to see if I can find any additional info.
Once again, thanks so very much for responding.
Clare

Hi Clare,
The book gives you the citation of the documnet/book that the information was
found in. If you are filling out a DAR application, DAR will accept a
photocopy of the listing in the book, if the book's title page, publication data
page, and the pages explaining the documentation are attached.

The Levi Ball info tells you that Levi served in the Worcester Co MD Militia,
Snow Hill Battalion as a private under Captain Samuel Smalley's Battalion.
This militia service is acceptable to DAR. Levi also took the Oath of
Allegience and that too is acceptable service to the DAR. The info was published in
the book by Clements, S. Eugene and Wright, F. Edward called "The Maryland
Militia in the Revolutionary War," published by Family Line Publications (now
called Colonial Roots in Lewes, DE). The book is in some libraries, or can be
purchased by you at

To my knowledge, most members of the militia did not receive land grants for
their service, unless the militia went out of state for battles fighting with
the Continental Army.
