Hi Nancy and thank you very much
Yes, Perry is the Americanization of Pereira. And the link I provided
is of this lineage, with Anthony Dexter Perry. They came from the
Azores prior to 1884, and their last name went from Pereira Cardoso to
Pereira until naturalization, then Perry. However, per my grandmothers
birth certficate (Thelma), her parents are listed as Anthony D. Perry
and Dora Etta Bowen.
And I doubt very seriously that Anthony used Pereira ever. For in the
1910 census, he is listed with his father Antone Perry, as Anthony. I
have a manuscript for this line from Antone Pereira Cardoso I, Antone
Pereira Cardoso II, Antone Pereira Cardoso III. From about 1886-90 on,
their last name has been Perry. Antone Pereira Cardoso III has used
Antone Pereira for legal documents only. But every other document I
have lists him as Antone Perry.

Antone Pereira Cardoso III, first came in 1884, stayed with his sister
Maria in Dighton, MA. Then Maria Margarida Luis his wife and my great
grandfather Anthony came in 1885. They owned a farm in Berkely, MA and
then sold it about 1895 and moved to Taunton. In 1901, they settled in
Richmond, CA. However, Anthony did not go. And the next time I hear of
him is in 1906 when my grandmother Thelma was born.
Thanks for all the help, Doc
