I don't think you are at all wordy!
The Bristol/Nobleborough VRs certainly should be available at NEHGS. Do you
have the catalog listing their loan books?

Is Friend the first name of your 2nd gggrandfather or was he a Quaker
referred to as "Friend"?
I have found the ME Archives to be a huge help -- and often I have had to
work backward to find out relationships. For a ggrandfather, born in ME,
but who died in MA I went to the MA Archives and to the Registry. It was
his death record that gave me the relationship connection I needed.

Have you asked for records from the ME Archives? They have a website.
I had no idea I had such a connection to families who braved life here from
the 1700's on! I am proud of their tenacity. I had assumed MA was the
only State other than NH my folks originated in.
