JAMES F. HOOPER

James F. Hooper, 71, formerly of Darien, died Friday, September 29 in Portland,
Maine. He was born February 22, 1929 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of James
and Lily Olson Hooper. Following graduation from the McBurney School of
New York, he attended Rensselar Polytechnic Institute. He left RPI to serve
a tour of duty with the United States Air Force in England during the Korean
War where he met and married his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth.

After the service, he completed his education at New York University, where
he obtained a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He retired as director of
engineering from Technician Corp. of Tarrytown, N.Y. in 1989. Of Mr. Hooper's
many avocations, music was his primary love. He sang tenor for the Fairfield
County Chorale in Connecticut, St. Marks Episcopal Church in New Canaan,
St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Newcastle, Me. and the Sheepscott Chorus
in Maine.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Law Hooper of Waldoboro, Me.; a daughter,
Bridget Hooper of West Hartford; a son, Frederick and his wife Patricia
Hooper of Norwalk; and two grandchildren, Sarah and Emma Hooper, both of
Norwalk. On Friday, October 6, burial will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Dutchneck
Cemetery in Waldoboro, Me. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. at
St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Newcastle, Me. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the American Lung Association or the Outreach for Haiti,
c/o St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Newcastle. Arrangements are by the Hall
Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, Me.
