Subject: John Kincaid-Norcross-Creasey of Maine
Date: Sat, 12 Jun 2004 08:34:20 -0700 (PDT)
A friend of mine visited the grave of my
GGGG_Grandfathe John Kincaid (son of Samuel Kincaid)
who was born April 1764, and died December 31, 1840 in
Hallowell, Maine. He married Susanna Dracutt on
November 11, 1784 in Pownal, Maine.
This is what she wrote:
"Thanks to your directions, we quickly found John
Kincaid's grave and
took photos. We then went to the Augusta Cemetery
Dept. at City Hall.
There we discovered a mystery--which you may have the
answer to. They pulled
John Kincaid up on the computer, then pulled and made
me a copy of the lot card.
John is buried with Anna Norcross, d. 1851, and Hannah
Norcross, d. 1854. The
name of the lot owner is given as Hannah Norcross.
The lot number is 27-A in
the Ex. So. E. Section."
John's granddaughter Marcia Cony Kincaid (through
John's son Alexander) married a William H. Norcross,
but that is the only relation to Norcross I have
found.
Question#1 : WHO IS HANNAH NORCROSS??? Does anyone
have any idea?
My friend also wrote "partially
cleared 3 stones being covered over by grass and
turf. They were:
1. Annie Carolin (this stone is next to John
Kincaid)
a daughter of Henry and Susan Norcross
Sept. 21, 18??
Died 6 mon.
2. Hannah
daughter of Henry and Susan Norcross
Mar. 2, 1854 (best guess)
2 yrs. 10 mon.
3. Monument is buried and seems to be blank (maybe
the back of the
monument is up?) Tools would be needed to clear this
monument, as only a small
part of it could be seen."
"John Kincaid's monument says:
John Kincaid
Pvt. McCobbs Mass Regt. Revolutionary War
September 15, 1840"
"We went to the Hallowell, ME, City Hall. The only
cemetery records
they had of Kincaids were in the 1900s. They had no
record of a Guy Kincaid in
any cemetery.
The clerk got out the Hallowell Family Record Book for
me to look at.
It is all handwritten and pretty fragile.
In it:
Guy Kincade, son of John Kincad (sic) of Whitefield
married Sarah,
daughter
of Jacob Creasey 1821."
This is the first I have heard of Sarah Creasey's
parents.
"We found the Kincaid-Kennedy Cemetery on Route 218 in
Whitefield, Me.
