Janet,
And what was his haplogroup? Group D and the test was the one done for Native Americans. His mother was Native American and his sister took the test because mothers and daughters share the same DNA makeup. Group D has pin pointed the area as the Great Lakes region. That is all they can tell us. DNA test cannot tell us the tribe. But will help us to know the region and where to look.

Joy; Several Native American DNA experts have told me it is impossible to determine a tribe from a DNA test, either Y chromosome or mtDNA. It may never be possible. Although it may someday be possible to tell a more likely tribe or area. In fact mt can point to likelihood now. But due to trading, raiding and migrating, women were especially mobile. Consider Sacajawea, used as a guide by Lewis and Clark for this very reason. She had been captured as a child by a tribe that took her many hundreds of miles from her homeland. She remembered the way back.
So I am wondering what you are basing the Great Lakes assumption on. Which kind of test was it? And what was his haplogroup?
