My daughter taught for a year in Gillette, but she taught in a private Christian school and they aren't known for their high pay. The classes weren't as big though, and she enjoyed it.
She became friends with one of the boy's family and they remained friends after she left. She taught 3rd grade. When the family came to the Oregon coast, they stayed overnight with us in Salem. Then, this past summer when she went on her trip, she stayed with them in Gillette. The boy is in college now.
She did long term substituting in Beaverton (I think) and she said she had a knife pulled on her once. That scared her half to death.
I respect any GOOD teacher, they aren't paid enough, but there are too many mediocre teachers that need to find another profession.

but the pay was very modest. One of the summer help at the entry
gate was a school teacher in Gillette, he was just starting a family and needed
more money to finish his masters.
Very dedicated many of these teachers are, and I do think many go in for the
right reasons and do a great job, but for the life of me I don't know why
anyone would want to teach in a large city with crime, guns and knives in school,
etc. Gads! Hugs Pat
