We were talking on another list about the May Pole dances in schools, which reminded me of the May Day baskets of flowers we would fill with flowers and hang on neighbors doors. Did any of you do this? I don't hear of it being done any more. I thought it was a nice tradition.

We had one special neighbor when I grew up, and I would always make a paper basket, fill it with flowers from Mama's garden and hang it on her door knob. I would knock on the door and run and hide watching her look for someone, then finding the basket. She said she always knew who brought it because Mama had the prettiest flowers in the neighborhood.

When I was teaching Sunday School, I had my kids make a basket, then I brought flowers to add to them and tell them to take them to a neighbor's door to surprise them.
