Southern Ohio has unique clay. Many very famous pottery factories came to
be because of the clay. I took a trip to that area some years ago and pottery
is still a big item there. So many shops set up and so many choices it
boggles the mind. I've always been interested in pottery making. We had a store
in Mansfield that sold unpainted pottery and I frequented it at least once a
month. I painted a Nativity scene and still have it. We have a gray clay
in this area. It's particularly difficult to dig. We encountered it when we
were digging for our garage which sits into a rather steep terrace. The soil
on top is very nice but a few layers down it becomes interesting. Sharon K.
