Even nowadays I would never use the word stupid, as it was absolutely forbidden to call anyone stupid in our house. That would probably be worse than a cuss word (though I didn't push the envelope to find out). As long as I live I will never forget when a nun told my first grade sister & her best friend to quit being stupid. It made my day when my mom "marched" herself down to our school & really gave it to that nun. She said "Stupid is dull, and my Nance is anything but dull!". Ooooh baby, Mom was so mad she could spit!
