Mr Standing and I descend from the same Richard Mendenhall. He is far more
competent by virtue of his long experience than I to comment on the
ancestry. In fact, had I not simply 'dumped' data from my computer
genealogy program, I might have written text with more details as he did
<grin>. Others would be wise to pay attention to his details!

Just for the record, my files were compiled from data I received from
others on the FIDONET network between 1993 and early 1996. I have not been
able to update all that information with new discoveries and changes. I am
told many with whom I discussed Quaker genealogy on FIDONET such as Cheska
Wheatley and Jerry Richmond now participate on the QUAKER-ROOTS list, but I
have been unable to find time to keep up with them <frown>.

Also for the record, I tried to record places as they were known AT THE
TIME the events occurred. So, for example, where I might say Frederick
Co., VA, for an event which occurred in 1750, that same location might
actually be Berkeley Co., WV, today. Sometimes with events recorded in
Quaker records, I simply used the name and location of the Monthly Meeting
because I was not certain where the family actually resided.

Paticulars:
===========

Mr Standing questioned the date John Mendenhall (the immigrant) died. That
is fortunate as it forced me to check my source and I had mistyped the
year. I got that date from Dean Leonard's MENDENHALL HERITAGE (CD edition)
where he record that John died "19 Aug 1743 in Springfield, PA" (v.1, p.
14). Like Mr Standing I have no idea what the source is for that date nor
if a primary record exists.

Rudduck/Ruddick - I was told that Phebe Rudduck who married Thomas
Mendenhall was the sister of Dinah Rudduck who married Thomas' brother
Moses. I am unable to verify Phebe's parents in Dean Leonard's work; they
aren't shown. However, Dinah's parents are listed there as John Ruddick &
Jane Tomlinson. (v.1, p.71) I have no other information about this
family. Perhaps what I was originally told about Phebe was incorrect. As
Mr Standing says, it is worth investigating.

Frances Vane - I had not heard that her maiden name itself was now being
questioned. I DID know that she was NOT the daughter of Sir Henry Vane the
Younger. Sir Henry's daughter would have been far too old to be bearing
children. Mrs Frances Grubb Buffington may have died as early as 1712. I
believe the date I have came from BUFFINGTON sources. As her second
husband Richard Buffington was married again in 1720, the date I show
should probably have been "bef 1719", but the genealogy program I used then
didn't allow those kinds of dates so all I gotin transfer was only the
year. Again, I thank Mr Standing for pointing this out so I can correct my
files.
