Surely your best bet is the Bangor Public Library. If any copies of papers
that old exist, they would have them on microfilm, sometimes difficult to
read.
My grandfather was an editor of the "Bangor Whig and Courier" about that
time, but I don't know whether it was the "biggest paper in town or likely
to publish such routine items.
I'm sure the library would appreciate a contribution along with the
request for a search.

Phemie Fish were married in Bangor on April 12, 1880 by Reverend A.S.
French. Does anyone know which church he was affiliated with? I would like
to obtain the church record, but I have no idea which church he was from.

says they were published on April 5, 1880 and the certificate issued on
April 11, 1880, with the marriage occurring on April 12th. Can someone
explain this to me in more detail? Does that mean there is a newspaper
publishment, then a certificate (license) from the town? The handwritten,
microfilmed records, in ledger form, seem to be extracts, not actual
documents.
