I am writing a biography of Elijah and Augustus Hamlin and am looking for a reviewer of the text (currently 300 pages single spaced). Am interested in family business contacts and want to put together a deeper biography of these two men through understanding their friends. (Have read "Here for Generations" several times.) See only known photograph of Elijah Hamlin at geocities.com/mainemininghistory.com Be sure to put www before the url.

The special emphasis of the biography will be their mining activities in Oxford County, although the associated biographies will be rich in Bangor colleagues. Am trying to find out about some of his business partnerships. For Example, the Maine Mining Journal September 23, 1881 has "Mount Mica Mining Company. A company under the above name was recently organized in this city, with a capital of $500,000. divided into shares of par value $5 each, and the following list of officers: President, Dr. A. C. Hamlin; Treasurer, John S. Jenness; Secretary, F. H. Clergue; Directors. A. C. Hamlin, F. M. Laughton, F. H. Clergue, C. P. Wiggin and J. F. Slater, of Bangor, and Ware B. Gay and W. W. Whitcomb, of Boston; Superintendent, Samuel R. Carter. Paris." Some of the people that were on the board of officers I have been able to identify and several who may have been famous in their time are still unknown to me. I have that Frederick M. Laughton (1844-1897) was a lawyer as well as mayor!
of Bangor in 1876 (two terms before Augustus and the 13th mayor after Elijah) and was in partnership with lawyer Francis H. Clergue. I presume the lawyer Clergue was father to the famous railroad civil engineer of the same name. I have J. F. Slater (no name details or dates) as the American Express Agent in Bangor in 1880. Have yet to identify the relationship of John S. Jenness, C. P. Wiggin, Ware B. Gay, or W. W. Whitcomb. Samuel Rawson Carter was Augustus Hamlin's brother-in-law.

Augustus Hamlin's line died out in 1934, but Elijah's line continued with his daughter Adeline marrying George Stetson in 1845.

If you have any information, I'd be glad to share info.

Best Regards, Van
