Purtianism is alive and well in Massachusetts ! Some of the old Blue Laws are still on the books; they dont mean much today
but they are still in effect.
John "Sam" Sapiel, full blooded Penobscot Indian who lives in Falmouth (Mass.) gets the creeps when he steps over
the Boston city limits. A law from 1675 forbids Indians from setting foot in Boston.
Needless to say, the mayor of Boston filed a petition last fall to dump the law and the city council passed it. However,
on Beacon Hill it's another story; the state legislative committee sent it to the legislature this week.
The statue was passed along with a law, creating an interment camp for Indians on Deer Island (in Boston Harbor), when
the tensions broke out between colonists and the Wampanoag leader Metacoment better known as King Philip.
This article was in the SPRINGFIELD-NEWS today........thought to share it with you.
