Hope the following helps, although I have no proof that the following Christopher Merkley (rarely if ever spelled that way in his lifetime, and also the Potter surname was spelled as every from Bader to Batty) was a son of the Jacob you mention - I do know he named his only surviving son Jacob and was either the son of Henry Merkley or Jacob Merkley of Dundas County Ontario.
