Alison,
The information I have on Charles Merrill in the old Bible is:
Charles Merrill was born May 26th 1805
child of Joseph and Lydia Merrill of Amesbury Mass.
Charles Merrill of Amesbury
Died August 11, 1857
Aged 52 yrs ? mos., 14 days
Whether that is your Charles Merrill, I am not sure.

Alison,
????????? If you need a death date for Charles Atwood Merrill let me know as
I live in Springfield, MA and I can look that up.? I would imagine he was
married in Maine but where any children born in Mass?? If you have his
chiildrens names I can look them up for you.? Mass has two websites where
you can search vital records.? Early records are to 1849 and there is one
site you can search from then to 1910 ish. I may be able to find an obituary
for Charles but I am not sure how far back archives go.

Importance: High
Is there somewhere I can post pictures that folks would feel safe accessing
them?? I have scanned the pages from the Merrill Bible (as well as a 1910
silver wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. William E Gray of Rochester NH
(not sure of the relation to the Merrill family; friends perhaps?).
I also plan to retype a list (I think I typed one once before, but I have
apparently misplaced it) and can send what I type up. Although, this Bible
is so old that the pages are yellowed, spotted, and splotched. Also, the
pages are so thin that some of the writing bleeds together. While I plan to
post the scanned pages for all to be able to access, I figure I can probably
read/decipher and transcribe better from the original that you may be able
to from the scanned pages. I hated to "manhandle" this Bible because it is
so old, but I was afraid if I don't scan the pages, they will continue to
turn more yellow, deteriorate, and fade away. I wanted to try to preserve
some of it. Once I am able to type a list up, transcribing from the
original pages, I will e-mail that typewritten text list to the Merrill
mailing list. That may be Sunday night, it may be sometime the first or
middle of this coming week.
Sandy, was it you who said your Merrill were primarily from Maine? There is
an entry on the very first page of handwritten entries that says Isaac
Merrill (looks like Isaac to me) was married to Hannah Jane Lord Nov. 22
1829 at South Berwick (co
uld be Brunswick) Maine. There are also names like Enoch Merrill, Priscilla
Merrill, Joseph Merrill, Albert Merrill, Lydia M.
Tuxbury, Addie Merrill, Charles A. Merrill, Hannah Merrill, Adaline Emory
Merrill, Emaline Merrill, Sally Ann Merrill, Martha Merrill. That's the
majority of Merrill names that I quickly picked out from the pages, just to
give you an idea. There are also dates, which you will see when I
transcribe the pages again. Too bad I'm not more organized ... I would have
the pages that I typed a long time ago. Unfortunately, I got a new computer
awhile back and, while I have most of my stuff from the old computer burned
to CD, even those are NOT well organized. Sigh! ... Talk to you all again
shortly.
Did I mention that Merrill is NOT one of my family names? Smile! But, I
do believe family is very important and that it is sad for family to be
lost and forgotten about! That's why I am trying to give back a little to
Rootsweb, because Rootsweb has been good to me!! Best wishes to all....

I wanted to post a quick reply since I have had such a good response on my
e-mail. I don't mean to put you all off, but I won't really be able to
reply to the responses I have received thus far until at the very least
Sunday night sometime. ...snip..... Again, I ---PROMISE--- I will get the
information to each and every one of you, ...snip....
