Message Board Post:

Four Olivers from Bath, ME came to Hollister, San Benito Co., CA in the 1860's. Harriet Ann with a brother in 1861, W. H. Oliver in 1863, and Frank w. (Wilde) Oliver after he was mustered out of the 14th ME Inf. in 1865.
Frank Oliver is my ancestor and I know of no relationship among these Olivers other than the noted brother & sister.
Harriet married Philip Henry and both are burried in the IOOF Cemetery in Hollister - index on line.
W. H. Oliver came to own a sizeable farm in San Benito County and later located to nearby Pacific Grove where he is burried in El Carmelo Cemetery - partial index on line.
Frank Oliver married Alice L. (Louise?) Higgins from Bath, ME in Hollister and they had 8 children. The family later located to Pacific Grove and both Frank and Alice are burried in El Carmelo Cemetery.
Lena Spinney is another person from Bath, ME in Hollister with ties ( I am told) to Frank Oliver.
Frank was 18 when he enlisted and I know nothing more of his maine background. It seems unlikely that four Olivers would find themselves 3000 miles away in the same small CA town by chance. I hope to learn who Franks parents were and if these Olivers are related in any way.
There are several Higgins in Hollister's IOOF Cemetery and as I recall a "mother" and "Father", but I do not know that they are Alice Higgins Oliver's parents.
If this connects with your research or that of any reader I would be delighted to hear from you. John Redfern
