GOUGET / GOUGER / GOUGÉ / GOUGY / GOUGEZ / GOUGIE
(or substitute a J for the G -- rare)
would have all been pronounced the same way... GOO-JZHAY
The J sound in English has a D in it but it doesn't in French.
I only have a few GOUGER's in my database.
Unfortunately it isn't yours.
But their location might help you.
All these marriages took place in Joliette, Quebec except for one.
