Hi
I was born in Park Valley, SK where my Dad was a trapper and my grandfather
worked around big River with the Forestry. My father (John Campbell)
travelled north from home each winter for a few months at a time by dog
team. We had a neighbor there who also ran a dog team once in a while, his
name was William (Bill) Lowe born 25 April 1920, son of Charles Lowe. His
Dad Charles, had a homestead there and Bill helped his father until 1942.
Bill had a brother called Fred and a sister called Mable she was married to
Henry Odegaard at Ordale, SK. In 1942 he went to Candle Lake, SK cutting
pulpwood, 1943 to Big River. He stayed with George Campbell till he had his
own cabin built near Park Valley. He raised some stock. In 1953 it all
flooded out and so Bill moved all his cattle the following spring. He moved
to an area about 15 miles north of Big River. SK. He raised cattle and
horses here until 1975. Bill was still living in Big River last I remember
him.
Charles Lowe was born in 1881, Branston, England. In 1903 he left England
with the Bar Colony, to Saskatoon, then to Prince Albert. He took a
homestead in Shellbrook, SK. He never had a car, he drove oxen. In 1910 he
married Anne Bartlett. In 1928 Charles took a homestead in Park Valley, SK.
Charles and Bill broke land for Delphis Short with oxen.
Anne was the daughter of William Bartlett 31 Jan 1848 Chickeral County of
Dorset England and mother Hannah Turner was born 20 Oct 1859 at Nipawin
Mission Settlement, SK. They were mariied at Fort a la Corne, SK 14 feb
1877.
Anne was born 31 Mar 1894 at Island Lake, a sister Fanny Maude b.7 Sep 1883.
Fanny married Elgin Campbell and they homesteaded in Park Valley, SK
Charles and Anne had a family of seven children;
Fred 1911
Mabel 1913
Grace 1915
Gordon 1917
Hazel 1919
Bill 1920
Bernard 1924
Charles moved away and passed away in Duncan, BC in 1969
The book I am getting this from goes on to say that a Grace Helen b.1915 in
three Creeks passed away in 1935, she had one child named Ethel Rose b. 1
Jan 1933. Ethel married Bruce Buchanan and in Maple Creek, SK
Joseph Garth b 5 Feb 1953 lives in Drumheller, AB
Twins, Mary Louise and Deborah Anne b. 21 Aug 1954, they are in Camrose and
Red Deer
Robert Bruce b 14 Aug 1956 lives in Saskatoon
Andrew James deceased
Grant Meyer b.25 July 1964 lives in Saskatoon
There is a bit more on Fred and his family.
I'll wait and see if these are your people.
Ray
