Hello list! I'm assuming my last message will show up before this one, but

just in case here's the news. Libby was so very kind as to send me the

ascendency of M-Louise Giroux (m. to Francois Boucher), and lo and behold I

find the first person in my lines that is positively I.D'd as Native, Huron

to be specific - Marie Oliver m. to Martin Prevost-Provost. (As I said in my

reply to Libby, that is conditional on my Grandmother being the biological

child of the parents who raised her.) So I was very happy, and that also

rang a bell, because I've heard of this Marie before, mostly because she

also used the name Sylvestre (which of course is my surname), having been in

the care of one of the early New France members of that family. So I went

back to make sure this is the same person. Now, most of you already know

this but for those that don't, this marriage between Marie Manitouabewich

and Martin Prevost is generally said to be the first marriage between a

French man and a native woman in New France. And to think she was my 8th

great-grandmother!

For anyone interested, this is from the Quebec list, posted last month.

Marie Olivie Sylvestre Manitouabewich born about 1624 died September 10 1665

in Quebec, QC

daughter of

Roch Manitouabewich and Koeou (Sauvagesse) Outchibahabanou

married

Martin Prevost (son of Pierre and Charlotte Vien) November 3, 1644 in

Quebec, QC

Roch Manitouabewich, born abt 1600 died unknown

married Koeou (Sauvagesse) Outchibahabanou about 1620

Koeou (Sauvagesse) born about 1602, died unknown

Yes, Manitouabewich and Manitouabich are among the different ways you will

find the name spelled.

Hi everyone - thanks for sharing my happiness about this ancestor. The

following, as you can see is a message I received from Gary Boivin in July.

It has quite a bit of info about this family group, and even shows sources.

Large, nicely wrapped thank-yous to Gary, and good wishes, of course.
