Hi all. Looked this up in my Houde CD from 1999 edition and see Tetreault
not L'hereault.

Jean Houle son of Charles and Marie-Louise Lessard nr 35895 married
Elisabeth Menard d/ Pierre Menard and Marguerite Lefebvre
16 Jan 1804 at ND Rosaire, St. Hyacinthe, Qc They are indicating 13
children for this couple

they do not continue with the lineage for this family in ascendance.

WONDER!!!

Could it be Louis Charles Lehoux? and Marie-Louise Lessard?

AND HERE IS WHY I THINK THIS WAY... There is a note on page 34 of the NDR
register at the marriage #467, HOULE, Jean (Chs & Lse Lessard) Ste. M.

The Godparents of Louis Binet were Madeleine Tessier and Pierre Garnier his

priest was Chardon. This certificate also indicates that the ceremony at the
church was supplemental to the Baptism conferred in the home. Liturgically
this indicates that the sacramental action was performed according to the
Rituel and therefor valid and, the ceremony was merely an opportunity for
the family to gather and receive the Churches blessing upon the infants.

Notes for Mathieu Choret:

[Choret.FTW]

Mathieu Chaure married in France. Before he married he made a short stay in
Canada. First mentioned that we find is in the Jesuits Journal. At the start
of his Chronicle in October 1645, Father Jerome Lalmant writes "The three
men who were at Trois Rivers earned 100 pounds. One was named Chestinnot,
the other Mathieu Chaure and the 3rd Antoine Desrochers." Father Lalement
adds, the 12th November, that Mathieu Chaure who was residing in Quebec,
went to replace Pierre Conthier, at Trois Rivers.

Did Mathieu Charue passe a contract of 3 years as was the habit, so he could
know the county before he'd install himself definitely. It is possible.

In any case in the fall of 1646, wanting to establish a home with a young
girl he knew, he went to France and got married on the 4th of March, 1646.
He embarked the same year with his wife. Sebastienne Veillon. The marriage
is inscribed in the St Marguerite registers, before known as Notre Dame de
Cogne, in the city of LaRochelle.

Marriage act does not mention the parents names, but the marriage contract
makes up for it. That contract was written by the lawyer Teuleron, at
LaRochelle on the 27th day of February, 1664. Surprisingly in that contract
there's no mention of a dowry or marriage settlement in favor of the wife.
No parents accompany the future couple. On the husband's side, 3 good
friends stand up for him who had resided in Canada. Report the Jesuits.

Sebastienne Veillon, the future bride, daughter of Maxent Veillon and
deceases Bernarde Venet was assisted by Thomas Venet, a merchant, with whom
she might have been residing and had the last same name as her mother. There
is no mention if they were related. The Registers of the sick of Hotel Dieu
of Quebec, tells us that Sabastienne Veillon, was formally of the parish
Verdille, situated 25 miles from LaRochelle

The brother, Jean-Benoit Charette, wanting to verify if his ancestor Mathieu
Chaure and his family were originally of LaRochelle went through the
registers in Aunis of 1600-1660 so he could finally find the name of Thomas
Chaure's buried in 1636 and of Mathieu Chaure the one which is mention here.
It is clear that this family wasn't of province of Aunis. On the other hand
we find in the history of LaRochelle, that in 1628 that part was totally
ransacked and destroyed by the Huguenots.

Therefore, the port had to be reconstructed. They called upon carpenters of
Breton (french province). In that era the Chaure families are known in
Bretagne. Some still exist today. The name changed from just like in Canada
and it became Chauret-Chaurette and Charette. The name of Venet is very
popular in LaRochelle as is the Venet name, mother of Sebatienne. There is
also a street Venet in the city of LaRochelle. There's probability that our
ancestors Chaure was a Breton and his wife was a Rochelaise (means from
LaRochelle).

The couple Mathieu Chauret (Choret) and Sebastienne Veillon established
themselves at Beauport in 1647. On March 6th 1649, Father Jerome Lalemant,
Jesuit grant's to Mathieu Chaure, land measuring 3 acres as the front of St
Laurent River, and 10 miles long joined by Bonsecours farm on one side
belonging to the Brothers Jesuites and Michel Huppj dit la Croix on the
other side.

The Jesuites tell us that Mathieu Chaure's house burned while he and his
wife were at church in Beauport. That happened on March 12th 1651, 2 years
after the purchase of the farm. It happened in the middle of winter and they
had already had two babies. It must have been very hard times to pass.
During there 17 years of marriage, Mathieu Chaure and Sebastienne Veillon
gave birth to 7 children, 6 boys and 1 girl, one set of twins, amount the
boys. We can consider the 6 boys seen as head of the family tree.

Mathieu Chaure's deed of his death carries as March 28th 1664 in Beauport.
Five months later Sebastienne Veilon married Pierre Auffroy. She reached her
84th birthday as she died 1698.

In the first Canadian Generation, the oldest child of Mathieu was born in
1648. They named him Robert for his godfather Robert Haches Cousin by
relation of Robert Drouin. That Robert Hache was a witness at the marriage
of Mathieu Chaure at LaRochelle. Robert Chaure surly went to school; he
signed all the contracts that appear at the lawyers office and there were
many of them. He practiced the trade of carpenter-cabinet maker-joiner. He
worked on the construction of the Quebec Church. He lived a few years on the
I'le d'Orleans, St Pierre parish, then he resided in Quebec. Of his two
marriages 14 children were born. One of them Gaspard established himself at
St Croiux de Latbiniere where he was a church warden.

The old Registers give us a few little funny stories of the lives of our
ancestors. Gaspard Choret's third wife Catherine Grenier, acted often as
midwife and also often as god-mother. At the baptism of Jean Vaillancout, on
the 9th of August 1750, the priest belives he has to write this fact or
action "Baptized in the belly of the mother by mid wife Catherien-Genevieve
Grenier, wife of Gaspard Choret".

A Few of Gaspard's children went up the river at Trois Riviere, at
Louisville and at St Cuthbert de Berthier where they established themselves.

The second child of our ancestor Mathieu, Joseph married Ann Loignon a young
girl of lle d'Orleans. this is where he chose to establish himself. In a
deed of Lawyer Chambalon, we see Joseph Choret giving a part of his land to
construct the St Pierre Church. He did died very young at the age of 33
after being married only 8 years. He left one son.

The only daughter of Ancestor Mathieu, Jeanne was baptized in 1642. She was
the first to leave home, she married at 17 years to Jean Morisset, a pioneer
of Ile d'Orleans where she went to reside.

On March of 1665, Mathieu Chaure And Sebastien Vaillon had twins baptized
act was sighed:Father Jerome Lalement. They were named Ignace and Pierre.
Pierre was later named the oldest Pierre to differ him from his younger
brother aslo named Pierre. They were known in all the documents. Pierre the
oldest married in Beauport, Madeleine Giroux, daughter of Toussaint Giroux,
they baptized 9 children in Beauport.

Ignace twin of Pierre married in Beauport to Marie Belanger. He raised 6
children in Beauport. One of his sons was aslo named Pierre and was a farmer
and shoe maker.

Jean the 6th child of Mathieu, married in 1684at Ille d'Orleans in Ste
Famille Church, with Claire Bosche, daughter of Guillaume Bosche. They had 8
children. One of them established himself in Kamouraska. Jean Choret died at
42 years of age. Seven of the sixteen children of Pierre (the youngest)
established themselves towards Montreal, Sante Genevieve de Pierrefonds
Pointe Claire, Sault au Recollet, Saint Laurent and Lachine.

None of Mathieu's children died at an early age, although infantile
mortality was wide spread at that time. All these ancestors were practicing
agriculture and sometimes different occupations, except for the oldest
Robert Mathieu, who was rather carpenter and business men instead of being a
farmer. The first professional seems to have been Jean-Baptiste who
practiced notary or lawyer's occupation at St Croix de Latbiniere at the
start of the 1700.

According to Tanguay, Mathieu was the founder of Beauport, Quebec
