Dear Linda, thank you for replying. I'll email you privately to discuss this family at greater length and to discuss sources. For the record here, I believe my Sarah Seavey to be the daughter of William and Sarah Seavey of Rockland and Trescott, ME (1860 Rockland Census; 1850 Trescott Census), with the line running backwards in time as follows:
Sarah Jane Seavey b. 1831 Machias?; d. 1870 Rockland, ME; m. 1860 William Perry, Jr., Rockland (as his much younger 2nd wife)
William Seavey b. 1799 Machias; d. ? Rockland, ME*; m. Sarah about 1816, Lubec, ME**
Joel Seavey b. abt 1775; d. ?; buried Cutler, ME; m. 1798 Lurena Holmes, Machias, ME
Joseph Seavey b. about 1751; d. ?; m. Olive Booker; he served in Am Rev. in his father's company
Joseph Seavey b. about 1720; m. Sarah Scott; Capt. in Col. Benjamin Foster's regiment in Am Rev. (moved from Rye to Scarborough to Machias
Joseph Seavey m. Hannah
Henry Seavey
Thomas Seavey immigrant ancestor of Rye, NH

* The Rockland Town Records show that this William Seavey died in 1854. Yet, he is listed with his family in the 1860 Rockland census.

**Sarah's maiden name is given as Packer in the published Lubec records. However, there are no other mentions of this surname in the records. One correspondent (without documentation) called her Sarah Tucker, and there are Tuckers in the surrounding area. I'll have to check the microfilm of the original record to see if I can make out the correct surname.

NOTE: There seems to be some confusion about the name Sarah Jane Seavey Perry (b. about 1831). Her marriage record in Rockland calls her Mary Jane, but the newspaper accounts of her marriage and of her death call her Sarah. She's Sarah in the 1860 and 1850 censuses, but I'm told she's given as Mary Jane in the Trescott town records. (I haven't personally checked those yet.) My grandmother always referred to her as Sarah Jane.
