Is Belmont, ME still in existence or did it merge with another city? What

Carol,
Belmont Maine is still in existance and it has not merged with another city.
The major source for searching records would probably be in Belfast, Maine
just 10 mins. from Belmont.
I'm not totally sure about the newspaper information, but you might try the
"Republican Journal".
Most Genealogical records are held in the Belfast Free Library.
In recent days (1990) Morrill (a town right next door to Belmont) residents
had to still register there marriages in Belfast due to no town office...we
still don't have a town office.
Belmont does have one, but it is very small and I doubt it would have the
information you may be looking for because the town office is relatively new
in the large scheme of things.
I'd try looking in Belfast. You'd probably have better luck there.
Sincerely~
Angelia Hutchins-Thomas (Morrill, Waldo County Maine formally from
Searsport, Waldo County Maine)
