Hi Judy. One of my ancestors is Samuel WILKINS who was reportedly born in Maine in the 1770's. I have not been able to trace who his parents were.
There are several possibilities which involve the WILKINS men who were in the Unity and Vassalborough, ME, area, also in the 1770's.
Samuel was not shown to be one of the ten? children of the WILKINS family in Lewiston, ME, in the 1790 Census.
Two of the WILKINS men were reportedly living in "Maine" in 1790, but don't show up on the Census forms.
Is your David WILKINS descended from the family in Lewiston? Or, have you found his parents yet?
FYI: I am descended from two of Samuel's five or six children. The family moved to Amity, ME, in the 1830's. And, their daughter married J. Calvin KIDDER, and their son, Joseph KIDDER, married his first cousin, Clarissa WILKINS.
