I am trying to track down Daniel C. Averill who was born in 1838 or 1839. Maybe in Alexander, Maine. I'm not sure. There is a Daniel C. Averill listed on the 1850 census of Alexander, Maine, living with Adam Averill and Sally Averill. Maybe these are Daniel's parents, I'm not sure because I can't find anything. Daniel married a woman named Catherine Sutherland Munson Averill on July 11, 1871 in Alexander. They were living in Calais in the 1880 census, but Daniel was listed as Samuel C. Averill. Here is the mystery -- I don't know if Daniel abandoned the family or died, but the family refused to speak of him for all of these years. We tried to get the birth certificates of Daniel and Catherine's children, born in Calais, but we were told these records were destroyed in a fire. I am desperate to find out who Daniel's parents were and what happened to him. Does anyone out there know or have access to any records for Alexander / Calais who can look up this information !
for me? Catherine was buried in Calais, Maine, and her death certificate states that she was a widow. She died in 1926. She is buried in Calais, but not with Daniel Averill. Daniel would have either died or left the family around 1890.
