Annette,
St-Francis Church was closed some years back, as was St-Charles. Last I
heard, the records were being held at St-Mary's, but you might want to verify
that because they could also be held at the Diocese in Gaylord.

Alverno was (is) a little cross roads settlement about ten miles or less
southeast of Cheboygan, down the Black River Road. There never was much of
anything there that I know of except St-Francis Church (the cemetery of which
is a mile or so away) and a few surrounding farms, a couple of which had
belonged at one time to my great-grandfather, Octave Trudeau, and his older
brother, Pierre (Peter), when they first came to Cheboygan County shortly
after the Civil War.

If you want to see the exact location of Alverno on a map, you can click on
the TRAVEL channel in the lower left hand side of the WELCOME page that comes
up when you first sign on to AOL. When the TRAVEL page comes up, click on
Maps and Directions at the bottom of the page, then, when that page come up,
click on the City & Regional maps tab at the top. Then type in "Alverno MI".
You'll get a map pinpointing with a star the location of Alverno, which you
can then zoom in or out for more detail.

If you want/need some information, I believe you could probably write to
St-Mary Parish, P. O. Box 40, Cheboygan MI 49721-0040 (I believe this address
is still good, but you might want to verify that, too.) Be sure to include a
self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE), and I've found that a small check as
a donation "for the good of the parish", though it may not be required, never
hurts either. Al Trudeau
