If your plot description is a "Metes & Bounds" description, the local Tax Assessor's office (for the county or township where the land is located) or a surveyer would be good places to start.  Once you have the starting point and the dimensions of the land it should be fairly easy to draw it out on a map.

I have discovered that our ancestor, Frederick Allyn, bought land in 1835 in
Michigan Territory. I have the plot listing from the paperwork but does anyone
know how to superimpose the land from 1835 to what is there today? The first 80
acres I know is east of Redford but would love to know the exact location.
