BUFFENBARGER, Sarah E.
Gun Lake, MI
Sarah Buffenbarger was a strong willed woman who devoted her life to making herself and the friends and family in her life happy. She was born on November 5, 1909, in Kenton, OH, to George and Sarah (Burnworth) Whitmore. Sarah grew up in Kenton, where she met the love of her life, Earl Buffenbarger. The couple dated for several months before they married. They remained in Kenton for a few years before they moved to the Martin area for work on the onion farms. Sarah also worked for many years in assembly at Shakespeare Company. Earl and Sarah enjoyed their time together, whether ice fishing, traveling across the United States, or working in the garden. After her husband's death in 1962, Sarah moved to her home on Gun Lake. Sarah loved to be out in her yard and tend to her garden, where she grew beautiful flowers and tomatoes. In her spare time she also created beautiful needlepoint, knitted, or crocheted items. Sarah spent many hours outdoors, whether fishing or hunting for m!
ushrooms, which she could smell from a mile away. She attended the Yankee Springs Bible Church, where she was often seen with her group of lady friends. Sarah was also involved in the Pythian Sisters. She spent most of her time with her family, giving of her time generously. Easter and the Fourth of July were almost always spent at Aunt Sarah's house, enjoying her company and wonderful baking. Her family includes her sister, Evelyn Stalder of Kenton, OH; many nieces and nephews and their children, who considered her a second grandmother; and a dear friend, Eva Bowerman. Sarah died at her home on Gun Lake on June 5, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1962; 3 brothers, Cecil, Charles, and Francis Whitmore; sister, Charlotte Howe; and a sister-in-law, Roma Buffenbarger. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, June 10, from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. at the Rupert, Durham, Marshall, & Gren Funeral Home, Plainwell Chapel, where the Celebration of Life service will!
be held on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Merritt Johnson. Memorial contributions may be made to Yankee Springs Bible Church.
