Message Board Post:

I'm trying to find connections to the following family that arrived in Barry County, Michigan around 1855. They were all born in Vermont.

William Corey, b abt 1816
Andrew Corey, b. abt 1827
Sylvina or Sylvinia Corey, b. abt 1831
Mary Jane Corey, b abt 1834
Susannah Corey, b. abt 1788

1850 - I've located this family in Grafton Township, Rensselaer County, New York

1860 - Barry Township, Barry County, Michigan. Household includes William, Andrew, Mary Jane, Susannah. Also in this household is John Hodges, possibly the husband of Mary Jane.

Sylvina is living in Johnstown Township, Barry Cty, with husband Theodore Matteson (mispelled Maddison in the census). Their children are Albert, 4, Floretta, 2, annd Franklin age 3 months.

1870 - Barry, Barry, Michigan.
William is married to Emogene Casey (my great-great-great grandmother). They have the following children

1) Ada or "Addie", b abt 1864
2) Thomas, b abt 1866
3) Ida, b. abt 1867

Sylvina and Theodore Matteson are listed with the following children - Albert-14, Franklin-11, Mary-6, Walter 10 mths.
Susanna, age 82 is also living with them. Floretta must have died between 1860 and 1870.

1880 - Barry Twp, Barry Cty, Michigan.

William Corey is listed with the following children:
1) Ada, age 16
2) Thomas, age 14
3) Ida, age 11
4) Olive, age 10
5) Eugenia, age 7(my great-great grandmother)
6) Lucy, age 6

William and Emogene may have divorced between 1874 and 1880. I know from my family that she died as Emogene Dunn. She may be the Emogene Dunn listed in the 1880 census with Anannias Dunn, located two houses down from William in the 1880 census.

1880 census - Sylvina and Theodore are listed with the following children, Albert-24, Franklin-20, Mary E-16. It looks like Walter was the infant Matteson buried in Banfield Cemetery in 1873.

1890, Susannah Corey dies and is buried in Banfield Cemetery, Johnstown Twp, Barry Cty, Michigan.

1900 census - Theodore and Sylvina are living in Baltimore Twp, Barry, Michigan with their granddaughter Mary Pierce.

Mary is the child of Frank Pierce and Mary Matteson, married in October 1883 in Calhoun County. Their daughter, Mary Pierce, was born in Indiana.

Theodore died in 1901 and is buried in Banfield Cemetery.

1910 - Sylvina is living with her granddaughter Mary Pilgrim

Sylvina died in 1918 and is buried in Banfield Cemetery.

Any further information on this family would be appreciated. Thanks.
