One further thought -- the online 1894 Veteran's Census (http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/civilwar/1894vetscensus/1894_paged_search.asp) shows Joseph Duchane, China Twp. There may be a CW pension file for him. I've found a wealth of famly info in CW pensioners files for four CW vets in my family. Might be something there to connect him to your family.
