April 27, 1925 - Sept. 2, 1995 - Niles, Edward E. KURZHAL Sr., 70, of 1412 Silverbrook Ave., died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in his home of natural causes. Mr. KURZHAL retired in 1988 as a captain from the Indiana Department of Correction. He was born April 27, 1925, in South Bend and had lived in the Niles area since 1962. On Aug. 25, 1962, in Niles, he married June L. HANCOCK GILL. She died June 3, 1995. Surviving are a daughter, Janice FIELDS of South Bend; two sons, Edward Jr. of Granger and Tim of South Bend; two stepdaughters, Evelyn MARKWENAS of Hope, Ark., and Star VARGA of Granger; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Donella NEWCOMB, Ruth Ann RIGELS and Glady SHAFFER, all of North Liberty, and Adaleen WILLIAMS of New Palestine, Ind. Mr. KURZHAL was a navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion 284, South Bend, was active in the American Association of Retired People and attended South Niles Community Church. Serv!
ices will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mission HIlls Memorial Gardens. Friends may call one hour before services Wednesday in the funeral home.
