Message Board Post:
I would appreciate any information on Mary E. (HOY) SMITH, last seen in the 1900 census of Coldwater, Branch county, Michigan. She resided there in the 1880 census as well, with husband William and their 4 children. I believe William died there in 1885. As the index I have available only goes to 1902, I'm guessing that Mary died between 1903 and 1910.
In particular, I would appreciate information on Mary's parents. I believe her father was Charles H. Hoy, who probably died 1845-1850 in Lenawee county. Mary's mother was probably "Mrs. Nancy CONKLIN", who married Charles in Washtenaw county, Michigan on 11 July 1843. Nancy died in Washtenaw county during 1876. She was married a third time to an Emerick Scriver/Scriber, but probably divorced him and resumed the Conklin name. I have never found Nancy's maiden name, or the name of her Conklin husband, but that information could be very helpful in studying my Hoy family.
Here are transcripts of Mary in the census where I could find her:

Information on Mary's four children:
1 - Fayette "Fay" Smith, born 21 August 1865 in Coldwater, died 22 February 1940 in Michigan, buried at East Hickory Corner cemetery, Hickory Corner, Barry county, Michigan. He married Grace Lois Misenar on 29 January 1895 in Coldwater. She and 4 of their 6 children are also buried at East Hickory Centery cemetery (listed on Find A Grave).
2 - Frank C. Smith, born "about" May 1870 in Michigan, married Jennie Lewis on 23 December 1899 in Coldwater, Branch county, Michigan. Two children, William L. and Helen F. Smith.
3 - Alden Smith, born 8 August 1873 in Burr Oak, St. Joseph county, Michigan. Married Edith Irena Misenar (possibly a cousin to Grace Lois Misenar above) on 29 March 1897 in Coldwater. In the 1900 census, both Alden and Edith were listed as married, but Alden was living with his mother while Edith was living with her parents. Edith listed that she was the mother of 2 children, living in 1900, but they were not in either home.
4 - James Corel Smith, born 1 March 1880 in Coldwater, Branch county, Michigan. Married Dessie Weaver on 4 July 1900 in Hudson, Lenawee county, Michigan.
Thank you!
