Greetings everyone. I am Albion's Historian. My annual guided tour of Riverside Cemetery in Albion (Calhoun County) will be on Sunday, October 14 at 1:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Community Enrichment Program of the Albion Public Schools. This year's theme will be "The German Hill Tour of Riverside Cemetery." We will be featuring about 25 old pioneer German families who settled in Albion. Many founded the St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Salem Church. This is a great genealogical event. There will be a tour program available at a nominal charge filled with much genealogical information about these families, many of whom came from Pomerania in the vicinity of Belgard, Drosedow and Schwemmin.
The event is free and open to all ages. Families will have a chance to talk about their ancestors at the gravesites. Riverside Cemetery is located on M-99 in Albion at the south city limits. The tour will begin at the main cemetery office. For more information contact the community enrichment program of the Albion Public Schools at (517) 629-9166.
The surnames featured are listed below in the surname section. We'll see you on October 14 for an enjoyable afternoon together.
