Clayton “Clay” Johnson - Of Battle Creek, Formerly of Decatur, Passed away Monday, July 22, 2002 in Battle Creek Health System. Clay was born September 2, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Francis and Evelyn (Delafene) Johnson. He was a self-employed carpenter and painter in Battle Creek and Decatur for several years. He was an Army veteran, serving in Vietnam. He married the former Stephanie Wattles, May 27, 1995 in Decatur, and she survives. Also surviving are a son, Chris Kovalcik of Decatur; brother-in-law, Kim Rush of Kalamazoo; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dennis and Prudie Newell of Decatur. Friends may call this evening (Wednesday) 5-8 p.m. in the Newell Funeral Home, Decatur, where Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday with Mr. James Abshagen officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, Decatur with military rites conducted by VFW Celery City Post #6248 of Decatur, of which he was a member. source: Kalamazoo Gazette Wed Jul 24, 2002 !
