Subject: [micalhou] Lookup Request - Pioneer Families of SE Michigan - Calhoun
Date: Thu, 08 Aug 2002 12:07:42 -0700
I'm hoping that some kind soul could do lookups for me in the Pioneer
Families of SE Michigan - Calhoun book.
I'm interested in the following families:
Merrill (Daniel, wife Mariah, children EW, Nancy Maria, Louis, Hulda Ellis,
Araminta)
Morton (Joseph/Josephus, Mariah - don't know if they are related)
Phelps (Asa, Andrew, Nancy, Martin, Ambrose M., others?)
Eastman (William)
It seems that Daniel's family is sharing their cemetery plot with Asa,
Andrew and Nancy Phelps. Ambrose M. was named Justice of the Peace at the
first meeting of Newton Township. At that meeting, Daniel Merrill was named
the first town clerk.
I'm trying to figure out the connection. I'm almost certain that the
families immigrated to MI together, from Avon, Livingston County, NY.
Daniel was married twice: Wife #1, who was the mother of his four
children, died in NY and we believe that she is buried in Riga, NY. Wife
#2 was Maria Morton, whom Daniel married after he moved to Michigan. I'm
working on the theory that maybe Wife#1 may have been a Phelps.
Any help you could give would be mucho appreciated!
Thanks.
Paula
