I have had a number of answers on this but none quite give me an explanation which satisfies me. I'm sorry if this is a bit hard to follow, and yes, I do understand about 'original' records being the only ones to go by, but I still would find it helpful to know the way the indexes were created.
So, further to my query about children being found on the Scottish Church Records Index, against a particular batch number,
BUT
only half those chn listed being found on the IGI (same batch no.),......
perhaps I need a definition of what a BATCH really is.

Is it part of a section of a film of records, or
is it a 'batch' of typed computer entries to the index?

If the former, then they must have been keyed in separately, with some just missed out. This would also explain an un-named child on SCR being a male and on the IGI a female....just an error in typing.

If the latter, why has the SCR and IGI the same batch numbers? And why is there a discrepancy within one batch?

Can anyone give me a definition of a 'batch' and explain or confirm the above please?
Still curious,
Margaret
