Jenny, as far as I can figure it out, Hunter Gray was named after his
uncle, Hunter Gray, who married Mary Gifford at Bressay in 1848.
His own parents were Samuel Gray and Elizabeth Hughson, who married on 9
Dec 1858 at Bressay. The children included Robert b. 1860, Laurence b.
1862, Samuel b. 1863, Gifford b. 1865, Cumming b. 1868, HUNTER b 22 Jul
1871, and Elizabeth b. 1872.
The following extract from the 1881 Census appears to have some connection
with your family, but I have not yet worked out what it is. Perhaps you can
work it out:
