Dear Jim,
I have just phoned New Registerer House and was told still births were not registered until 1939 .So there will not be a record of the other twin . Registration was only started then because medical research demanded records, seemingly. You won't find a hospital record either so family lore is the best evidence in this case.
Ah well, it was worth a try.
Best Wishes,
Jane
""Hello Fellow Listers:
Can SKS advise me if a birth certificate and death certificate was required by law in 1922 for a stillborn child? Reason I ask is that I am trying to find evidence of birth of twins in Bonnyrigg, Cockpen in 1922. At NRH, Edinburgh I found the birth and death record of only one child who was born and lived for 7 hours, cause of death being "Non-viability from premature birth as certified by John Young M.B. Ch.B." However, there was no record at NRH for the other twin who I can only assume was stillborn (birth of stillborn twins is recalled by other family members).
Thanks
Jim Arnott
