Subject: [MLN] Re:Marriage Record
Hi
I am new to this list and need some help, I have a marriage for
Alexander McGregor and Margaret Scott 21 Oct 1789, Edinburgh also the same
Marriage date is recorded in Lauder, Berwickshire, I am assuming that the
Edinburgh date was an irregular Mar. since after the marriage they lived in
Lauder.
WHERE can I send for or look for a copy of that marriage
Thanks
Brenda
Hello Brenda,
Pre 1855 the registering of marriages in two separate parishes was very
common.
It would be registered in the parish they were married in and also the
spouses parish.
You don't say where you are calling from ,but,if you live in Scotland you
can access the church records for both parishes at the National Archives of
Scotland in Edinburgh under ref C.E.
Website :www.nas.gov.uk
Most of the Session Records carry note of B,D & M's in some form and are
completely separate from the O.P.R's which are held at New Register House.
Regards.
