Hi Kim,
Well, I made it to the library but had less than an hour, This is what
I did:
I checked a book about Scottish Executions but it only gave the names of
those hanged, not their victims.
I checked the Edinburgh & Leith Street directories and Gray's directory
from 1830 - 1840 to see if a Doctor David Turner had disappeared during
those years, from the lists.
However there was no David or D Turner listed as a medical man. Was he from
Edinburgh?
There were other TURNERs:
J.W. TURNER Surgeon, Professor of Surgery lived at 23 Castle St from 1830
till 1835
Francis K. TURNER, Surgeon, 16a St Patrick's Square, was listed 1835 -1840
David TURNER, Shipmaster, Laverock bank, Leith was listed 1837 - 1839 (this
one looks promising?)

Time running out I looked at the 'Scotsman' film of 1830, which begins with
an index and under M for Murders I found the following (presumably the
number is a page reference):
of Hanlon 23
of Lieut. Farewell and his party 82
of Margaret Paterson of Gilmerton 20
of Mr Mill....
Honestly I was thrown out at that point, the library closes at 1pm on a
Saturday.
I'll have another go but would be grateful for any more clues.

Best Wishes,
Jane
