Subject: [MLN] SANDEMAN - SANDIMAN - SANDIEMAN - SANDYMAN : Information sought & offered
Date: Thu, 15 Aug 2002 15:53:23 +0200
I have been beavering away for several years on the Sandeman Family
described in The Sandeman Genealogy (1950), edited by my fourth cousin the
late Gerard Lionel Sandeman, and now, with much help from other
enthusiasts, I have a database of over 11500 people in that and connected
families. The SG (1950) traced down as far as the mid-20th century many of
the lines descended from John SANDEMAN and Margaret A. SMITH, who were
married at Alyth, Perth, on 23 November 1628.
Recently I have been at work on the "Supplement" to the SG (1950), which
contained a number of fragments of family trees involving SAND*MANs but
which GLS had been unable to connect definitively to the families descended
from the "founding pair". This "SF" (Sandeman Fragments) database now
contains more than 2000 people, about half of them bearing the surname
SAND*MAN, and is growing at a great rate.
Like many Scottish families the SAND*MANs have spread world wide, but I'm
writing now to a number of Rootsweb mailing lists for British counties
where there were or are lots of them, hoping that anyone who is a member of
or has an interest in these families will get in touch with me, to share
information. To subscribers in North America : I'd love to know more the
SAND*MANs who crossed the Atlantic, an area of the family I've hardly
touched yet.
I don't think I can cope with regular, full-time subscriptions to all these
lists, so please contact me off list at <>, copying
your message to the list if it has interest for others.
Hoping very much to hear from some of you. I cannot yet claim to have made
a comprehensive "One-Name Study", but with your help I may get there
eventually!
