Alistair,
According to my records, George Nelsons parents were Alexander Neilson &
Margaret Hardie, this was taken from George's death certificate in 1862.
Alexander & Margaret were married in Cranston, 8th September 1790.
Regards
Tom

Hi Tom,
I have investigated but at this moment I can't find a connection.
But as you say George Nelson Married Alison Corner in Inveresk
Midlothian,but I have two dates.4 Jan also the 12 Jan 1818.
George was born James Neilson(note spelling change) to Ann Thomson, married
in Edinburgh Parish in 1 Sept 1771.
James Nielson was born 20 Aug 1732 in Inveresk, Midlothian to William
Nielson & Alison Atchison.
Ann Thomson was born 15 Nov 1741 in Inveresk, Midlothian to John Thomson &
Margaret Hogg.
My people came roughly from the next parish of Newton Midlothian, with
various spellings From Nison, Nielson,Neilson, & Nelson.
In Newton there was two branches of the Nelson family in the 1670's but as
they were all miners they moved into other areas following deposit finds of
coal, ironstone.
As the records are a bit unclear or non existant it is difficult to research
much before 1670's.
Hope this is of some help.
Alistair
