how about

girlfriend, or as my younguns say girl - friend,

Mate; co-inhabitant; colleague; buddy; partner

Partner seems to be the acceptable term in administration areas when
referring to one's close associate.

Co-inhabitant is used when two of the opposite sex, and live in same
apartment but sleep in separate rooms. Means they share facilities but are
not partners.

luck
