Hi Fiona,
I found a William Davidson born in St Cuthbert's in 1814 and one in 1920.
Either one could be him, but I can't tell without paying for points.
Hopefully it would have the parents' names listed. There may not be an
image, as they are Old Parish Record (before 1855), but one could view them
at the General Register Office. Of course it's possible too that neither
one is him, but at least it's a starting point. His death certificate would
be viewable at the General Register Office. I also found a marriage for
William Davidson and wife Kemp in 1854. Again, it's an OPR, so there may or
may not be an image viewable online.

I was sent some information from 'Genfindit' a couple of years ago and it
ststed the following:

death 692/2-770
William Davidson, seaman, widower of Agnes Kemp
1998 Nov 2 aged 77 ( which puts his birth year as 1821)
2 Broad wynd, leith
F: Thomas Davidson, sailmaker, dec
M: Margaret Gillespie, dec
Inf Jessie Snodgrass, grandaughter

I was also sent the death information of his wife - Agnes Kemp but
apparently no marriage certificate of theirs was found even using her first
married name of Cairncross.

The couple were then found in the 1891 census:
William Davidson head marr 76 retired mariner born St.Cuthberts, Edinburgh (
which puts his birth year as 1815 not 1821 as on his death certificate)
Agnes Davidson wife 70 mariners wife born Leith, Midlothian.

So I know who his parents are but just no exact birth date due to the
inconsistency of information, and with no marriage certificate found I can't
verify it from that.

Any ideas?
