I've been having to work a great deal lately, but I wanted to let you know I
received the material you sent on Alex Sneddon and William Cummings.
It was thrilling, especially the court case document. "As far as my memory
serves me...".
Please let me reimburse you for the materials and the postage. How much was
it?
It turned out to be a good week, because I also received the microfilm of
the Back Street United Presbyterian Church (was formerly known as Dalkeith
Associate Session Church) records which contained many of the baptisms of
William Cummings Sr (married to Magdalen Ferguson in Lasswade in 1740)
children. This microfilm also contained several pages of records showing who
took up collections at Sunday services, and William was listed many times
circa 1765.
When William Cummings (born May 13, 1761 in Inveresk) was baptized both
William Cummings SR and James Kinghorn (the grandfathers) were present:
OPR 689/8 Births 1739-1774
1761
Cummine, William and Issable Ginhorn their son was born upon the 13th and
baptised the 22nd of May be the (name) of William.
