Hello, fellow enthusiasts,
Today, I became the proud owner of an 1807 Leith Directory. What a wee
treasure with a beautifully drawn map included within the book. If
anyone
would like a look-up, please let me know.
It is arranged alphabetically with a person's name and their address,
i.e.
John Smith, Constitution Street, no house numbers. Next comes the Court
of
Session members, Board of Excise, Sheriff's Court and other public
bodies
and folk within these administrations including the post office's letter
carriers as in members of staff. Listed are the constables on the beat
and
where the boundaries are of their beat. It even names other carriers
(individuals and company names)who arrive in Edinburgh, where they come
from, where they lodge while there and when they leave within the week.
A
great addition to my shelves.
All the best,
Eileen in Hampshire
