My father John ARCHIBALD was born in Leith, but he and his family came
to Australia in 1912, which seems too early for your inquiry.
Grandfather was a butcher.
NEILL is also found as McNEILL. That name's in my family too.

John was a Sheriff Officer 1841, Policeman 1851, Gardener 1861.
From Police records (State Library, Sydney) John was 5' 8 1/2" tall,
with oval face, black hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion. He was a
shepherd before joining the police. Made sergeant 6 Jan 1857.
His father, John, was a tailor.
