Are there any trade directories for Edinburgh in the period 1820 to 1840? If
there are, how would I access them from New Zealand?

I am looking for Matthew Muir who was a shoemaker at Calton in 1823. A
bootmaker, Matthew Muir, migrated to Tasmania in 1834 and I am looking for
clues that might help me determine whether he is the same Matthew Muir who
was at Calton in 1823.

I am also interested in whatever information that is available about Matthew
Muir's father-in-law, James Carmichael, a cabinet maker of Edinburgh.
