I too have many coal-mining ancestors from Newton Parish: Cummings,
Cheyne/Sheen, Kinghorn, Moffat

Albert Russel's Hood Family History site is an excellent resource for
coalmining in the area

See his maps of the area at

Subject: [MIDLOTHIAN] Newton, Midlothian

Hello Listers,
I am hoping some one with local knowledge of Midlothian might be able to
help me.
I have a birth abt 1848 and marriage 1846 in Newton, Midlothian.
On the Parish Locater it locates Newton south of Duddingston but on Mulitmap
it is located near Queensferry.
Would some on know which one was around in 1846-48.
Regards
