Subject: [MIDLOTHIAN] James Thomson born Edinburgh 1810

Hi
I am seeking information about one James Thomson. When he joined the Royal
Artillery in 1828, his service papers gave a d.o.b. of 31 March 1810 and p.o.b
of Edinburgh. The English census of 1851 is more specific mentioning St
Cuthberts (although subsequent censuses revert to Edinburgh). My problem is
that I can't find anything to tie in the name and date together in the index to
old parish registers although the International Genealogical index does have
a James Thomson christened in Corstorphine on April 20th 1810. Would anyone
with knowledge of the locality - and the common intervals between birth and
christening around that time - be able to give an opinion of whether this is
likely to have been the same person - or have any advice on other leads?
Cheers
Alastair Thomson
